What You Need to Know To Stop Balding

Your hairline is farther back than it used to be. Perhaps you have noticed that your hair is thinning, or you can see your scalp at the back of your head. You are not alone in wondering why it is happening and wanting to find a way to stop balding.
Approximately one-third of men are affected by male pattern baldness, the most common cause of hair loss. Men usually start to notice a receding hairline or hair loss at the back or top of their head around the age of 30, but some men start losing their hair when they are teenagers. Losing most or all of your hair tends to be genetic. If the other men in your family have lost their hair, odds are you will, too.
Thyroid disorders, some medications, stress, and an unhealthy diet are known to sometimes cause hair loss. However, the primary reason is a hormonal imbalance that causes the amount of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT, to increase. DHT production in the hair follicle is widely accepted as a primary reason men lose their hair because it attacks the hair follicles, making them shrink and stopping them from producing new hair.
There is no scientific evidence that dietary supplements, shampoos, or vitamins stop hair loss. But don’t despair! Your genes and DHT levels do not have to control your destiny.
You can stop or slow down the progression of hair loss by using a minoxidil 5 percent topical solution twice daily. Minoxidil is a topical DHT-blocking treatment known to enlarge hair follicles and stimulate hair growth. In fact, approximately 70 percent of men who use it claim they have regrown some hair. Be patient though. It can sometime take as long as four months before you will begin to see results. If you stop using he minoxidil, your hair loss will resume.
