hair lossMen and women can experience hereditary hair loss, with both sexes able to see their hair loss begin as early as their 20s. And though they might experience hair loss differently (men find their hair loss mostly happening around the crown of their heads and paired with a receding hairline, while women can experience hair loss mostly around their part), each are provided the same solution: minoxidil.

Why is minoxidil safe for both men and women? It all comes down to a fine balance concerning hormones, follicles, and the growing phrases of your hair. Hereditary hair loss for both men and women causes the hair follicles to shrink, eventually shortening the growth span of one's hair until it ceases to grow new hair. The stunting of hair growth is believed to be caused by various factors-- the biggest culprit being a hormonal imbalance of DHT--due to the hereditary hair loss genes. Minoxidil works to enlarge hair follicles and reactivate their growth, increasing your chances of growing new, thicker hair.

Though minoxidil is not exclusively used by one gender, there are a few reasons why women should not use higher dosages of minoxidil than men. Though minoxidil with DHT blockers is applied topically to parts of your head that are experiencing hair loss, the solution can eventually affect other parts of the body that grow hair. Having a larger dosage of minoxidil might increase hair growth in various parts of the body, not exclusive to where the solution was applied. So for women, taking a 10% minoxidil solution can cause growth above their lips, an unwanted side effect. Women are less likely to need a dosage higher than 2% to see successful results, while men (especially those in late stages of hair loss), might consider the stronger solution.

Minoxidil, therefore, is a safe alternative for solving hair loss issues in both men and women. To learn more about minoxidil and our formulas, contact us.
