Why Should Women Use 2% minoxidil Products?
30th May 2015
When looking at the technology for hair loss on the market, typically women are only given 2% minoxidil products. Why is 5%, 10% or even 15% minoxidil not prescribed to women, even if they are undergoing late-stage hair loss?
To begin, it's important to first understand how the biology of men and women differ, in order to understand hair loss. Like men, women will over time experience a shrinking of hair follicles, which leads to the growth of thinner hair, until the follicles stop growing hair overall. But while men might struggle with the loss of testosterone--which plays a role in hair growth for men--women have to balance estrogen and androgen. Androgen are male hormones that are also found in women, and when they overcome the balance of estrogen, they become the biggest reason for hair loss in women. Stronger minoxidil formulas don't address this with women, and can cause growth of hair in areas besides the scalp.
In addition, other formulas are not adjusted to help keep up with the needs for women's hair over men's. For example, the other solutions that Xandrox provides for men do not include apple polyphenol or niacin, which are added to the 2% solution for women. These two additions help build stronger, thicker, and longer hair that women tend to grow, so using a solution not formulated for your hair might not give you the results you need. Instead, you might find growth as thinner and more course than normal.
Xandrox's specially formulated 2% solution is safer for women of all ages, and provides optimal results when women start their minoxidil routine at the first signs of hair loss.
Overall, the smaller dosage of minoxidil for women works in most cases. Women are less likely to need to use a stronger prescription, or go to greater lengths for hair growth (such as laser treatment or hair transplant surgery), unlike men.
