27th Feb 2015
Dealing with hair loss can be difficult for anyone. However, the issue is especially harrowing for women. There are several reasons why women experience hair loss issues. The good news is that there are also several options to combat hair loss in women, no matter the cause. It is possible for women suffering from hair loss to overcome this embarrassing, frustrating ailment.
DNA
The most common cause of hair loss in women is in the genes. Hereditary hair loss is responsible for frustration in women across the globe. Parents from either side can pass on the unfortunate condition, but the odds of experiencing it are greater if both parents have hair loss. Hereditary hair loss is a slow process that can begin as early as the 20’s in women. Effective treatment is the regular use of Minoxidil products.
Reaction to Events and Medications
While shampooing or brushing, clumps of hair fall out. It’s scary but not uncommon, and it's certainly treatable. The condition known as Telogen Effluvium causes hair loss in women under a number of different circumstances. The disorder causes the cycle of hair growth –including loss- to accelerate. This occurs as a reaction to extreme stress, pregnancy, severe weight loss, or the effects of certain medications. Telogen Effluvium is temporary. The best way to overcome it is to reduce stress, talk to your doctor about altering medications, or just do your best to be patient and wait for the end of it.
Autoimmune Disorders
Several autoimmune disorders result in hair loss. The most commonly known is Alopecia Areata. The exact cause is unknown; however, stress or illness often could be to blame. It causes patches or full baldness of the scalp as well as hair loss over the whole body. Doctors often prescribe corticosteroids and/or Minoxidil as a treatment.
These are just some of the top causes and treatments for hair loss and baldness in women. Important to remember is that no one is alone in the battle and treatments such as Minoxidil usage do work.
