Women: How to Get Thicker Hair, Even With Hair Loss

hair lossAs you age, you’ve probably noticed your hair thinning. Though it’s a natural consequence of aging or genetics, there are still things you can do that will help you maintain a healthy head of long, thick hair. Here’s our top tips for women undergoing hair loss:

  1. Treat your hair right. Make sure you’re buying hair products that are  high-quality and suitable for your hair type. Good quality shampoos and hair volumizers can go a long way in maintaining healthy hair and scalp.  In addition, you should also pay attention to the combs, brushes, hair ties, and hair clips that you use. Unsuitable combs or clips that irritate your scalp or tug at the base of your hairs can cause damage to the hair and follicles. Instead, try hair styles and products that don’t pull or tug on your hair too harshly.
  2. Style it. There are ways to make your hair look thicker, even if you actually have less, thinner, hair. For example, thin highlights give the illusion of naturally thicker hair, and long layers cut into your hairstyle, can provide adequate coverage that adds depth. Visit a hair stylist that can really give your hair a good treatment with quality products, and you’ll come home with a head that looks fuller.
  3. Use minoxidil-based products like Xandrox. If you need a little boost, using a 2% minoxidil based solution can help you add volume to your hair. Minoxidil is safe to use, and is especially recommended for women experiencing female-patterned baldness. The results won’t last unless you continue to use it daily, and it’s not recommended for use by women who actually don’t need it, as one of the side-effects can mean increased hair growth in undesirable places (like your upper lip).
